When can we return home?

We knew the fire line in the north end of Redstone was damaged by the fire storm last Sunday but thought it simply needed to be re-secured. That is not the case as  the damage done by the storm was much more severe – it obliterated the containment line completely across the north end. As a result the fire scorched over 1000 additional acres. A new line had to to be built from scratch in very rugged terrain. Currently, it is unfinished and shows as red on the fire line map. Equipment and fire fighters are moving in and out of the Canyon, including large tankers.  A lot of resources are coming in from all over to assist. Incident Command reports it will be 2-3 days before the new fire line is completed.  Another 24 hours is then required before Redstone Canyon is released for the return of evacuees.

A Red Flag warning has been issued from noon today Friday, June 22 through 8:00 p.m. on Saturday June 23, 2012 and marks the beginning of a three-day trend for high temperatures, low humidity and windy conditions.
